1st week of May Fun and Learning

1st week of Fun and Learning in May.

 Day 1  - Fun and learning started with playing game and listing down things we want to explore. Games are one way to build connection...it happens instantly even among the strangers. 

Usually when children come to a session there is a readymade curriculum/list of activities which are planned. We had not planned any curriculum. We discussed and co created with children. We decided what to do this week. 

The task was they had to list 5 things that they want to do and then convince others…. Sell their ideas to the whole group. Somehow we adults think we know more or we can plan better. We were surprised (as always) with the varied list of things children wanted to do. There was nothing stopping them…. even the barriers of having the session online.

The list included Jokes, share knowledge, talk about likes/dislikes, drawing, play, dance, online games, craft, games, make your games, Craft, own creation, write song, make a music, gymnastics tricks, cooking, make an app, origami,  dress up, painting, construct /build something etc

When they were convincing the group to add their choice of activities, there was challenging, negotiation, pleading, agreeing, disagreeing, convincing, understanding, communicating, presenting and much more people skills were put into action. Then finally they decided that 2nd day they want to dressup as a character. They challenged themselves that they had to bring something more with the character like storytelling or enacting.

Day 2 - In dress up we had princess, singer, queen of maharastra, monster, goldie, ninja and much more. The children were preparing from the previous day. One child shared she was practicing so much that she also dreamt about the same. One child shared the history about the queen of Maharastra, she also shared what are the practices that she did not approve of from ancient times.

Day 3 - We had decided we all want to draw on day 3. When asked if they want to learn, teach or explore, they were very clear they wanted Strawberry to teach them to draw. We drew all the shapes we knew. Tried to combine different shapes to compose and make our art. One child came up with a proposal that we can have rainbow day. Others wanted to know what does that mean. She suggested we all can decide a colour and all of us come dressed in that colour. So one more process started along with deciding the next days plan we also had to agree on a single colour now. Phew!!!It took some time for us to agree to a color for next day.

Day 4 - Was decided as Dance day. We played a quiz about dance. We discussed- What is dance? Why do we dance? So we dance only to perform? Is it ok if some dance for themselves and some love to perform for others? Some shared they feel shy to dance in front of others, some shared they don't know to dance and so on. 

We converted some mundane actions into dance steps like sweeping, mopping, driving on a bumpy road, bathing, brushing, sitting and watching TV etc. 

Then the group also choreograped to a song.  As a group they were given a theme to get inspiration from

Day 5 : Creation day. We had two topics. Kirigami and Craftsv from recycled materials. They chose which room to join and kept creating, innovating, designing, cutting, sticking.... And so on

It was engaging and engrossed week of sharing the joy of learning, characterization, voice modulations, observation, choreography,  preparation, overcoming the fear and shyness, creating space for each other, trying new things, innovating and what else skills do you think was developed.
