INGingggggg - Work In Progress

Each child is unique and learn in their own unique way. Learning happens organically in our mind. It does not happen at once. It takes time, bit by bit and over time the learning gets built. It might look a little messy, unorganized or jumbled but there will be many thoughts, confusions, failures and trial and errors while learning. There might not be one particular outcome and it can be trickles of many discoveries.

There isn't one proven method through which we all can learn and in some ways, we never do learn. We just keep adding the next ingredient into the mixture, new data, another dimension or a different perspective into the existing mixture. Which is why when it comes to learning (and living) we could consider slowness. Confusion and vagueness are virtues and the essential ingredients of growing and learning. This process is called INGing

When I first heard this word INGing, it gave me some solace. I could calm down with the assurance that my child is INGing, he is work in progress. I don't have to worry or be anxious about him. The minute my anxiety was taken care of, many things relaxed and it was peaceful. This also helped me to shift my focus from fixing the child to creating a supportive environment for him to learn and blossom.

I realised that the child is always learning and grasping information like a sponge. The beautiful thing about the child is he is curious about every thing and is willing to learn every minute. We all have been learning till date. We have never stopped learning. We have not stopped INGing. We all are work in progress.

Children are imagining, discussing, failing, learning, exploring, thinking, doubting, happening, agreeing, disagreeing, trying, actualizing, wandering, stopping, wondering, breaking, explaining, questioning, quitting, chit chatting, realizing, revisiting, seeing, living, sobbing, hearing, mirroring, debating, imitating, suggesting, mimicking, acting, creating, connecting, designing, expressing talking... INGing. They all are work in progress

1st week of May Fun and Learning

1st week of Fun and Learning in May.  Day 1  - Fun and learning started with playing game and listing down things we want to explore. Games are one way to build connection...it happens instantly even among the strangers.  Usually when children come to a session there is a readymade curriculum/list of activities which are planned. We had not planned any curriculum. We discussed and co created with children. We decided what to do this week.  The task was they had to list 5 things that they want to do and then convince others…. Sell their ideas to the whole group. Somehow we adults think we know more or we can plan better. We were surprised (as always) with the varied list of things children wanted to do. There was nothing stopping them…. even the barriers of having the session online. Lacing around

 Aunt: Wohoooo! you got a new shoe. Look at that its amazingly bright. I love the pink and orange patches on your shoes. Oh it has lace. Do you know how to tie lace.  Boy: No (looking at the lace) Aunt: Do you want to try it yourself Boy: ahhhh! (sounding lost, still fiddling with lace) Aunt: Ok looks like you need help of the expert! Ahem! thats me Boy: Can you teach me? (with wide and bright eyes) Aunt: Ofcourse, ok lets start.  1st step : wear your shoes 2nd step : hold both the threads in your hands, No not like that one with your right hand and one lace with your left hand. 3rd step: Make a X  4th step: make the lace in the right hand go inside the loop you have made by making the X. 5th step: Pull that lace with right hand, Now you have got a not. If you pull both sides it will tighten.
